    • Andrew Brookes

      Andrew Brookes

      AA Dipl RIBA AABC

      Appointed as Partner of the Practice in 1988,
      Andrew Brookes is an expert on repair methods
      and the use of traditional materials in building
      conservation. He has a particular interest in
      the strategic planning aspects of major
      conservation projects and finding pragmatic
      solutions to meet budget and programme
      constraints within specific quality parameters.
      Andrew also has a special interest in the
      historical development of country houses and
      their estates. Andrew is a Society for the
      Protection of Ancient Buildings Lethaby Scholar.

    • Mark Balkham

      Mark Balkham

      BSc (Hons) Dip Arch (UCL) RIBA AABC

      Mark Balkham became a Partner of the
      Practice in 2000. Mark has widespread
      experience in historic building work and
      a special interest in the introduction of
      contemporary design solutions in historic
      settings. He has extensive knowledge of
      conservation repair techniques and the use
      of traditional and sustainable materials.
      He is a Trustee of the BBC’s Restoration Fund
      and has been an adviser and expert witness
      for English Heritage and the Department
      of Culture, Media and Sport.

    • David Cattell

      David Cattell

      BA (Hons) Dip Arch (Hull) RIBA AABC

      An Associate since 2000, David Cattell has
      specialist experience in developing new uses
      for existing buildings and re-establishing social
      environments within redundant buildings,
      working with clients ranging from the National
      Trust to private developers. He is a member of
      the National Trust, the Centre for Accessible
      Environments and the Society for the Protection
      of Ancient Buildings.

      Stephen Oliver

      MA (Cantab) Dip Arch RIBA AABC

      Stephen Oliver joined the Practice in 1999,
      bringing widespread knowledge and experience
      of the use of traditional building materials and
      craft skills in conservation work, and a special
      interest in the Arts and Crafts movement. He
      became an Associate of the Practice in 2005.
      Stephen was elected a member of the Art
      Workers Guild in 1998, and was appointed
      their Honorary Architect in 2005.

    • Nichola Tasker

      Nichola Tasker

      MA Dip Arch Dip Archaeology RIBA

      Nichola Tasker has been an Associate of the
      Practice from 2006. As well as overseeing
      repair and conservation projects, Nichola is a
      Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings
      Scholar and a visiting lecturer at the Institute
      of Archaeology and Advanced Architectural
      Studies at York University. Since 2007 she has
      been a member of the newly formed Bristol
      Urban Design Forum, working with Bristol
      City Council to improve urban design and
      development.

    • James Edgar

      James Edgar

      BA (Hons) MSc MA Dip Archaeol IHBC MRTPI

      James Edgar was appointed our Head of
      Conservation Planning in 2009. He has been
      involved in the conservation of historic
      buildings and estates for over 30 years,
      principally at English Heritage as an Inspector
      of Historic Buildings, Inspector of Parks and
      Gardens, Areas Adviser and East Midlands
      Region team leader. He has an extensive
      knowledge of English architectural history,
      both domestic and ecclesiastical, and is highly
      experienced in listed building consent, planning
      and Faculty matters. During his significant
      career, James has also undertaken strategic,
      educational and advisory work for many other
      important organisations.

      Rodney Melville

      Rodney Melville founded the Practice in 1985
      after building a reputation as one of Britain’s
      leading authorities on the care and repair of
      historic buildings. He has a special interest in
      the dynamics of historic buildings in use;
      shaping their future in such a way that they can
      respond to current demands, while conserving
      and enhancing their historic, architectural or
      artistic significances as heritage assets. Rodney
      is a Lethaby Scholar, a member of the English
      Heritage Advisory Committee and a former
      Chairman of the National Trust’s Architectural
      Panel.

    • Stafford Holmes

      Stafford Holmes

      Dip Arch RIBA

      Stafford Holmes is one of Britain’s foremost
      experts in traditional building materials, with
      extensive experience evaluating and developing
      building material production methods for
      the National Trust and Historic Scotland. He
      regularly lectures on the subject and has
      written several influential publications about
      building with lime. He is currently Chairman
      of the Building Limes Forum.
