CHARTERED ARCHITECTS & HISTORIC BUILDING CONSULTANTS
Rodney Melville + Partners
Cliveden Estate, Buckinghamshire Date: 2008–present Client: The National Trust
The first of a series of houses on the estate was built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of
Buckingham as a hunting lodge for entertainment overlooking the Thames. One of
the most imposing features is the voluptuous Fountain of Love and the thousand yard
long Parterre. Laid out in 1855 by John Fleming, it incorporates wedge shaped beds and
a seasonal planting programme that set a precedent for gardens the world over.
We are appointed lead consultant for the preparation of a Conservation Management
Plan for the estate including the Grade I listed mansion. We are also appointed to
undertake a fabric condition survey of the mansion and estate buildings and structures.
